Import and export

Add companies or people you already know from a CSV file, and export a Target or its contacts as a CSV you can open in a spreadsheet.

Last updated 2026-10-23

If you already have a list of companies or people, upload it as a CSV instead of describing them. This page covers the upload, the file rules, and the two exports.

Import a CSV

  1. On Targets, click Upload your list.
  2. Under Import into, choose the Target the rows should join.
  3. Drop the file on Drop a CSV here, or click Choose a file.
  4. Check the preview line: the file name, its size, and an approximate row count.
  5. Click Start import.

The dialog then shows progress: Queued, Importing, then Completed or Failed, with the row count. Closing the dialog does not cancel the import; reopen it to see the progress again.

NOTE

When the import completes, the dialog says the accepted rows are staged on the list and are admitted when the list runs an import search, so the count may not move yet. The workspace has no control that starts an import search. Imported rows are therefore stored with the list but are not among its results, and you cannot enrich or contact them from the workspace yet.

File rules

RuleDetail
FormatA .csv file only. Anything else is refused with Only .csv files are accepted.
SizeUp to 5 MB
StructureA header row, then one company or one person per row
IdentifierOne column must identify the entity: a website, domain or name

RenewSell looks for the identifier column automatically among headers like url, website, domain, link, name or id. A row whose identifier is empty is recorded as failed.

Only the identifier is kept from a row: a URL or a name, plus the row's status. Pass an extra column through an enrichment column if you want RenewSell to research a value for each row.

A row identical to an earlier row in the same file is marked as a duplicate and not added twice.

The dialog refuses an empty file, a file with no data rows, and a file over 5 MB before uploading. If the import itself fails, the list is unchanged and you can retry the same file or pick another.

Companies or people

The file format follows the Target you pick. A Companies list expects One company per row, with a header row.; a People list expects One person per row, with a header row. The rows are stored as that Target's entity type, so choose a list of the same kind as your file.

Export a Target

  1. Open the Target.
  2. Choose More → Export CSV.
  3. The dialog states the scope: with nothing selected it says All 120 rows will be exported. (the row count you currently see), and with a selection it says how many selected rows will be exported.
  4. Click Export CSV.

The file contains every row materialized in the Target, including rows the current view hides behind a filter. Its columns are:

  • Name and URL.
  • Industry and Summary for a Companies Target; Summary for a People Target.
  • One column per criterion with each row's verdict.
  • One column per enrichment column with its value.

The file name is the list title with unsafe characters replaced, for example Solar-panel-installers-in-Germany.csv. A title written in Chinese stays readable rather than collapsing to dashes.

Export contacts

Open a company's contacts panel and click Export Table. The file is a contact export, not a Target export:

ColumnContent
CompanyThe company name
First, LastThe contact's name
EmailThe address
TitleThe job title
LinkedInThe profile URL, when known
StatusVerification status: Verified, Unverified, Invalid, Catch-all or Unknown

The file name is the company name plus -contacts, for example Gartenwelt-GmbH-contacts.csv. A whole-target export from the same place uses the list title instead.

A single export is capped at 5,000 contacts. When the cap cuts the file short, the panel tells you so.

NOTE

Exports contain personal data such as names, emails and phone numbers. Store the files where your own privacy policy allows, and do not upload them to public services.

FAQ

Does importing cost credits? No. The import itself is free.

Why does the list count not include my imported rows? Imported rows are staged until the list runs an import search, which the workspace cannot start today; see the note above.

Why is a row missing from the export? Export covers the rows materialized in the Target at that moment. Rows that were never accepted are not exported.
