Company Research
Request a research report for one company, read its sections and cited sources, and see how the report is billed by actual compute.
Last updated 2026-10-23
Company Research writes a research report about one company from public sources. Use it on a company that matters enough to read a full profile of: a large prospect, a partner, a competitor.
This page covers requesting a report, what it contains, and how it is charged.
Request a report
- Open Company Research in the sidebar.
- Type a company name or its website in the Company name or website box, for example
acme.com. - Click Start research, or press Enter.
- The report opens and moves through its statuses: Queued, then Researching, then Completed or Failed.
The IDEAS row under the box offers example subjects; click one to put it in the box. The Attach a file button is disabled with the tooltip Attachments are not available yet.
The line under the box shows the cost before you submit, for example 25 credits · 1200 available (the second number is your balance).
What a report contains
A finished report page shows:
- Report body: a Markdown dossier with the company overview, what it sells, its size and funding where known, and recent signals.
- Sources: every page the report relies on, each with its title, URL and a quoted passage from the report that the source supports.
- Run history: each attempt with its status and start time, so a re-run is visible alongside the earlier one.
Each report's summary also appears on its card in the Research records list, so you can scan several reports without opening them.
Reports requested from the browser describe the company as a whole. A separate free-text Question can be attached through the API; the browser box takes only a company name or website.
Sources and citations
Every claim in the report should be traceable. The Sources section lists each cited page with a short quote from the report that the page supports. Clicking a title opens the real page in a new tab.
A report never invents a source. When the sources disagree or a fact is missing, the report says so rather than guessing.
NOTE
A report is a starting point, not an audit. Check the key claims yourself before you quote them to a customer or in a contract.
Managing reports
The Research records list on the main page shows your reports, newest first. Load older records fetches more.
On a report page:
| Action | When it appears |
|---|---|
| Cancel research | While the report is queued or running; the credit hold is returned |
| Re-run research | When the report failed or was canceled; starts a new attempt on the same report |
A re-run adds an attempt to the same report rather than creating a second one. The Run history list keeps every attempt.
What it costs
A report is billed by the compute it actually uses, at $0.005 per credit, and 25 credits is the most one report can use. The credits page states the same rule as Company research — actual model compute: $0.005 per credit; up to 25 per report.
- RenewSell reserves 25 credits when the run starts.
- When the report finishes, it settles for the compute actually used, rounded up to 0.1 credit.
- A failed or canceled run returns the hold.
- A report that uses less than the maximum costs less than 25.
The composer shows 25 credits because that is the hold, not the final charge.
Availability
Company Research runs only where a research provider is connected. Where it is not, the page says Company research is unavailable in production (no research provider connected). and Start research stays disabled.
On the page itself there is no plan lock and no upgrade prompt. Start research is enabled by typing a name; if the balance cannot cover the 25-credit hold, the report fails with The account did not have enough credits for this report.
FAQ
Can I research a company that is not on a Target list? Yes. Company Research does not need a Target; type the name or website directly.
Can I ask a specific question? From the browser, the box takes a company name or website and the report describes the company as a whole. A separate question can be attached through the API.
Why does my report have no body? The run failed before writing it, and the page shows the reason, for example The research run exceeded its time budget. Re-run research tries again.
Does a re-run cost the same? A re-run is a new attempt with its own hold, charged by its own compute.
